ATHERSTONE-ON-STOUR

Some three miles south of the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon, Atherstone-on-Stour is a small elongated parish projecting itself into Gloucestershire. It is virtually the estate village of Alscot Park. The estate and several villages were purchased in 1749 by James West, he was very wealthy, something of an antiquary, and became Secretary of the Treasury.
