TEMPLE GRAFTON

The village is just over three miles south of Alcester and was sometimes called 'Hungry Grafton' because of the poor quality of the soil. The principal occupation of the villagers was that of quarrymen or stone masons; the nearby quarries also produced lime. There was a village at Hillborough in the same parish, and the manor there dates from the sixteenth century and has recently been attractively restored. The manor has legendary Shakespearian associations. Ardens Grafton is partly in this parish and partly in Exhall.
